Singapore Sling Drink Recipe

The Singapore Sling is another old school drink that you won’t see very often at all. In fact I think I’ve had this thing ordered a total of one time during all my years working behind the bar.

But…it is a true classic and I wanted to offer you a chance to learn it if you want.

I’ve never been to Singapore (except connecting through the airport) and this one of those drinks that has several different versions depending on where you order it. I do know the original was made with a raw egg yolk (quail I believe); kinda sketchy if you don’t have access to very high quality egg yolk…you don’t usually want to serve you customers anything that could give them salmonella.

So for simplicity and the ease of making one at your bar without killing someone, here is the basic American version, made with fairly common ingredients…

  • Tall or Collins glass, full of ice
  • 1½ oz Gin
  • Splash Grenadine
  • Fill half sweet & sour, half soda water
  • Cherry brandy (or regular brandy) float
  • Cherry garnish
